To launch our inaugural 7 days of A-Beauty campaign, we teamed up with two of our favourite Australian makeup artists, ex-Bobbi Brown International Pro Artist Alphie Sadsad and freelance editorial makeup artist Alarna Taylor, to find out who they think embodies the face of Australian beauty, what their favourite Australian ingredients are, and which Australian brands needs to be on our radar.

A-BEAUTY ASKS

Q: Your A-Beauty icon?

Alphie:

"Samantha Harris embodies how diverse Australia is. Her timeless beauty represents the multicultural melting pot that is the modern Australian woman of today."

Alarna:

"I’m absolutely loving Billie-Jean Hamlet. I first spotted her on a campaign for Country Road and to me, when I look at her, I see the definition of a real Australian beauty! She is such a natural beauty and I feel that is exactly what A-Beauty is all about."

"The signature Australian makeup look would be naturally enhanced makeup that creates that dewy summer bronzy glow with natural full-looking brushed brows, balmy lips and a lick of mascara."

Q: Your go-to Australian beauty brands?

Alphie:

"Such a hard question as everyone knows that I love product. For skincare, it's Hunt and Gather Skincare, Dr Roebuck's who use super-charged native botanicals that are sourced from our Aussie bush, and for SPF, Ultra Violette - they're hands down the best sunscreen for the face and body. I find Australian skincare brands lightweight on the skin but still super effective and delivery results.

For makeup, my go-to brands are Ere Perez and Velvet Concept. Their textures are beautiful on the skin - simple and easy to use. Finally, Lanolips are my multitasking go-to products as they are so good for dry, chapped, irritated skin."

Alarna:

"Eye of Horus products are great! One of my favourites of theirs is the Summer Solstice Eyeshadow Palette, it has beautiful warm glowy shades and some you can even double as a highlighter for when you want that extra GLOW.

Another range I love is Salt by Hendrix and their Body Glow Golden Hour oil. It would be my number one as it not only leaves your skin with a gorgeous skin-kissed soft glow, but it is hydrating as well."

Q: Favourite Australian ingredient?

Alphie:

"Kakadu plum - it's a rich source of vitamin C. I love a good glow and luckily, Kakadu plum naturally helps with that. It also works against free radicals to help protect the skin from the harmful effects of the environment."

Alarna:

"I would have to say Kakadu plum, too. It has so many benefits to the skin. It not only stimulates collagen but reduces fine lines, wrinkles, scarring and hyper-pigmentation. But my favourite benefit would be that it soothes irritated skin and fights off free radical damage from pollution, which is clearly a big bonus for the sun loving peeps here in Australia."

"A-Beauty is clean, fresh and timeless. A-Beauty is all about highlighting your best features without creating a mask and ultimately having an understanding of the Aussie culture."
